Stesichorus

A contemporary of Sappho, Stesichorus lived in Sicily in the early part of the sixth century BCE and wrote poems based on Greek legends. His poem the Palinode, in which he takes back a story he tells of Helen of Troy's betrayal of her husband, gives its name to a genre of poetry that retracts an earlier poem or statement.
