epistemology

Epistemology is a branch of philosophy that concerns itself with knowledge (episteme in Greek). Epistemology explores the question of how we are able to "know" anything and how we can be sure of that knowledge. It is interested in the makeup of the human mind, the mind's relationship with the phenomena of the external world, and the origin and nature of ideas.
