Introduction to English Studies

Course Description

This class serves as an introduction to the English studies. Throughout the course of the semester, student can expect to exposed to range of literary methods for approaching literary texts. For example, we will focus on what has can called symptomatic reading strategies, reception theory, reader response, and formalism. The primary method of interpretation we will use throughout the semester is called “intertextual” reading. To that end, we will be primarily concerned with what we can call “literary debts” and “revisions” – this is to say, we will concern ourselves with how authors draw on, revise, and critique authors that came before them.
