Introduction to Literature: Genre

This course critically examine dystopian literature and film to explore how these narratives reflect and critique societal structures and power dynamics in relation to the human condition. Through a selection of influential novels and films, we will analyze how dystopian world serve as cautionary tales, exposing the dangers of authoritarianism, media manipulation, technological control, and social division. By studying the intersection of psychological forces and external influences, we will consider how these narratives challenge our understanding of history, reshape our perception of the present, and provoke questions about the future. What fears and anxieties drive the creation of dystopian worlds? How do these works reflect dissatisfaction with the status quo while gesturing toward the possibility of change?
