Composition II builds upon English 100, helping students further hone
their writing skills and prepare for the academic writing
they will encounter in university courses. Students will be encouraged to understand their writing processes and incorporate strategies that assist them in writing well, and meeting academic deadlines.
The essay form emphasized in this course will be the argument, which is most often required of students
across-the-curriculum. An argument
makes a claim and supports it with evidence.
This usually involves doing research, and presenting it in a
persuasive and seamless style, integrating research results with one’s writing
effectively, and responsibly.
English 200
will assist you in better negotiating the writing process and research phases of essay production, so they are less hurried and “last-minute” and more integral to the thinking and learning processes student essays are expected to demonstrate. Once you
complete this course, you should feel more confident about your academic
writing and research skills, and better equipped to produce essays that satisfy you as well as your instructors in the range of courses you will take as an undergraduate.
