In this literature based course we will explore the history
of Hawaiian resistance through literature and composition in Hawaii. This class
will explore many genres of compositions including but not limited to: mele
(music), poetry & spoken word, plays, film, and short story. Students will
also read non-fiction and creative nonfiction essays written by kanaka maoli to
give context to the ever-present resistance and activism in Hawaiʻi.
