novels, short stories, and poetry produced by Caribbean writers.  Throughout the course of the semester
students will be introduced to a host of literary terms they can utilize to
engage the text under investigation in addition to being introduced the history
and politics of the Caribbean.   Some of
the questions we will attempt to answer are the following: how do Caribbean
authors deal with and confront the legacy of colonialism?  How are issues such as race, racism, and
sexism confronted?  What are the politics
of migration, and how do these politics shape the form of their writing
styles?
