This
course will give a historical and socio-cultural survey of the richness and
depth of Ethnic American literature.
Authors may include Harriet Jacobs, Frederick Douglass, Langston Hughes,
Richard Wright, James Baldwin, August Wilson, Carlos Bulosan, John Okada,
Janice Mirikitani, and many more.
Musical and cinematic texts will also be included in the critical investigation
of this literature.

Books. Additional readings will be
available for download on Laulima.
Assignments: Weekly blog entries in a
class blog; two essays (each a minimum of 1,000 words); essay midterm and final
exams; good attendance and class participation.
