Students in Eng. 100 will learn the nuts and bolts of academic writing, including how to properly cite their papers using MLA style and incorporate other perspectives into their own writing.
Major assignments in the course will include: a problem/solution essay, an explaining opposing positions essay, and finally a persuasive research essay.
Throughout the course, students will be asked to read a wide variety of essays and articulate their opinions on both the issues and the writing strategies explored in the essays.
Students will participate in both small group peer evaluations and have the chance to have one of his or her essays workshopped by the entire class at least once during the course.
