Composition I

This course will help you
increase your ability to develop, support, and communicate ideas though
writing. To inspire and inform our writing, we will read creative and critical
work related to Pacific history, culture, politics, music, and literature. As a
class, we will develop writing topics, discuss ideas, form lines of inquiry,
find our own positions, and conduct research. Emphasis will be placed on peer
feedback and revision. Assignments will include five 1-page reading responses;
two 5-page formal essays (argumentative and literary analysis); and a research
paper. By the end of this course, you will have produced at least 20 pages of
revised and polished writing.
