Students will demonstrate knowledge of key theoretical
concepts in modern literary criticism and be able to discuss how specific works
exemplify or resist many traditional categories.

This course will review and (through critical examination)
expand basic concepts of literary criticism through a detailed analysis of a
broad range of modern literature, using works also adapted or produced for film
or television. In addition to the set texts, the syllabus requires that,
outside class time, students watch selected films and attend at least one local
theatre performance.
Grades will be based on a Midterm (25%) and Final (35%), Ten
Weekly Laulima Postings (30%), Attendance (10%).
