Composition II (Session II)

ENG200 is designed to build on the critical thinking and research skills developed in Composition I.  This class will enable students to read critically, present critical evaluations of sources, and produce effective persuasive essays on complex topics beyond the first year or introductory college level writing.  Students will construct arguments based on analytical reasoning and make effective written responses to opposing viewpoints.  Through locating and evaluating sources using various research methods, students will be able to synthesize concepts and apply rhetorical strategies to persuade readers.

There are four major writing assignments for this class: three shorter essays and one longer research paper.  Coursework will include a visual (video) critique, textual analysis, and a final research paper.  Classwork will also incorporate reader responses, outlines, peer edits, and revisions.  There are no exams for this class.

Recommended text: TBA and will be available at the UH- Mānoa Bookstore.  Please note, the assigned textbook is a resource you will use and need for all of your university writing classes.
