Dr. Jade Higa was born and raised in Kaneohe, Hawaii. She received her BA in English from UH Manoa and her MA and PhD from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. Her academic passions include eighteenth-century literature, queer studies, and celebrity studies. Her other passions include knitting, dogs, and coffee/tea.

Dr. Higa's dissertation is entitled "A Stranger to the World": Women, Bisexuality, and Performance in Eighteenth-Century England. This project develops a new methodology of reading eighteenth-century texts by women through bisexuality (a term simultaneously helpful and problematic), queer temporalities, and gaze theory. It uses texts by Charlotte Charke, Jane Austen, and Joanna Baillie as case studies to demonstrate the importance of accessing the eighteenth-century through the twenty-first.
