Types of Creative Writing

Course description: English 313 (6), Intro to Creative Writing: poetry and songwriting; spring ’16, TR 12:00-1:15, Sakam C201, Goldsberry.

The basics of how to write poems and songs. No books to buy. Students create short books of their own, which include the handouts, class notes, and original manuscripts. Analysis of professional poetry and music. The songwriting emphasizes lyrics; you will not have to sing in class if you don’t want to. Much in-class editing work using transparencies. A great process. Practice in these short forms will improve your sentence-writing skills, and you can apply these lessons to all of your composition. You will learn to write something that can’t not be read.
