This course centers on African Migration narratives. Although we will primarily read novels, we will also engage a range of literary forms including poetry, short stories, and dramas. The goal of this class is to introduce students to contemporary African literature by focusing narratives concerned with migration. We will concern ourselves with the social and historical conditions that drive migration, and how migration is represented in literary form. Additionally, a major portion of this course will focus on representations of migration as it takes shape in film.
