Types of Creative Writing: Fiction and Poetry

In
this workshop course you will learn about the craft and technique of writing
poetry and fiction by analyzing published writing as well as your own work and
that of your peers. This course will develop your skills as a creative writer
and will allow you to build the critical vocabulary necessary for productive
workshops.

 

As
a student in this class, you will:

Develop mastery of the terminology and theory necessary to study poetry
and fiction

·     
Produce thoughtfully conceived and written creative works that indicate
your understanding of the techniques discussed in class and attempt to put
those techniques in creating art

·     
Develop skills as a reader that allow you to offer your classmates
useful critiques of their work

Creative assignments (2 poems and 1 short story [7-13 pp.] for workshop)
