Composition I

This course is designed to help prepare you for your research and coursework throughout your years at UH. The bulk of our semester will focus on analyzing texts, including how they work; their historical, social, and political contexts; how writers appeal to various audiences and for different purposes; and the ethics of writing and research.

Formal writing assignments will include description, comparison, argument, analysis, and research, and will encourage you to write critically and creatively. We will also be practicing strategies for revising, editing, proofreading. Other assignments include reading responses and quizzes. Active class participation is required.
