Composition II


In this course we will focus on our place as writers and students in our chosen professional and academic fields. We will be building on the skill set learned in English 100, as we further focus our composition lens on the specific writing skills related to each student’s academic discipline. We will be primarily concentrating on the skills you will need as writers as you move through your academic and professional lives. This course will lead us to ask questions concerning our future as professionals, how our chosen fields affect how and what we write, and the ways that we can improve our communities through what we do for a living.

At the end of this FW course [Foundations: Written Communication General Education requirement], students should be able to do the following:

  • Compose college-level writing, including but not limited to academic discourse that achieves a specific purpose and responds adeptly to an identifiable audience.
  • Provide evidence of effective strategies for generating, revising, editing, and proofreading a text in order to produce finished prose.
  • Compose an argument that makes use of source material that is relevant and credible and that is integrated in accordance with an appropriate style guide.

There are no texts to purchase for this class. All readings will be posted to Laulima, or be provided in class. This means that regular access to a computer is required. You are required to come to class with either the readings printed out or accessible on a device electronically.



  • Attendance, participation, and short writing responses
  • Four papers (which includes drafts, meta-commentaries, and peer reviews)
  • Keeping current through email and Laulima



Class readings will be all digital, available online and through Laulima. It is your responsibility to bring these to class, either printed out or as an electronic format.
