Composition I

English 100 is an introductory writing course designed to improve student writing.  This class will empower you with the critical thinking and writing skills needed to communicate and be successful at the university level.  You will learn to think and express your ideas clearly, read carefully and closely to develop your own ideas based on such readings, convince readers of your point of view, and acknowledge and respond to potential opposing viewpoints. You will learn how to research, to use research in your original work, and how to avoid plagiarism. This composition course will prepare you to write successful papers throughout your university career.

There are four major writing assignments for this class: three shorter essays and one longer research paper that will include an annotated bibliography. Classwork will also incorporate reader responses, outlines, peer edits, and revisions.

There is no textbook for this class.
