American Lit Since Mid-20th C

This class provides an overview of American literature from the mid 20th century to the present. Throughout the course of the semester, we will engage a host of literary movements and genres. For example, we will read variety of postmodern fiction, in addition to reading science fiction. The class will focus on historicizing literary movements and texts to come to terms with the cultural context that produced them. In addition to the text listed below, we will also read stories by Henry Dumas, Flannery O’Connor, James Baldwin, and Richard Wright.
